AABC has enacted three new rules that all members should be aware of. These rules apply to AABC sanctioned tournaments only.(1) The -3 restriction on bat length-weight differentials has been rescinded for the Sandy Koufax Division at both Koufax 13 and Koufax 14.I think this is a good idea at 13U and is OK at 14U on 90' diamonds but AABC plays its ...

TOURNAMENT OF STARSLast summer, a two-out single in the eighth inning drove in the tie-breaking run as the AABC All-Stars rallied to edge RBI 5-4 and capture the gold medal in the Ninth Annual Tournament of Stars at historic Joe Becker Stadium. This was AABC's 2nd consecutive gold medal in this highly prestigious national event.AABC has launched its bid for a 3rd consecutive TOURNAMENT OF STARS Championship by tabbing George Rogers to manage its 2005 team. This is a great honor for George and the entire ENYTB salutes him for his well deserved national recognition. For more than 30 years George has been devoted to local amateur youth baseball and his baseball organization, the So. Troy Dodgers. Throughout this time, his teams, honed by local competition, have successfully competed at the highest levels of amatuer competition nationwide. Numerous players from his teams have earned Division I scholarships and some are now professional ballplayers. George also has served as President of the local Eastern New York Connie Mack League and a few years ago, pioneered the now highly successful Elite Connie Mack League. I don't think it's an overstatement to say George is an icon for amateur youth baseball in this area.Several of my former players "graduated" to George's program (wink!) in years past and they all conveyed to me that their So. Troy Dodger experience was an important contibuting factor to their success at the next level. Having lost to George's team 2-1 on a 2 out suicide squeeze (yes, 2 outs) in the bottom of the 7th of the opening game of a State Championship Tournament, I can personally attest to the fact that he is a fierce and cunning competitor. I am happy to report that George has made amends for that outlandish, but brilliant call, by being a great asset to the League as a member, where I have enjoyed our relationship much more! In addition to his great eye for talent (another wink!), George forges strong and long lasting bonds with his players. I was getting physical therapy a few years back for a shoulder injury and it turned out my therapist had played for George several years earlier. Back then he was a left-handed pitcher and he was coming off a string of several bad outings and didn't think he was deserving of being on the team and walked to George's house, uniform in hand, with the intention of quitting the team. Well, George wasn't buying, gave the kid a pep talk and the player decided to keep his uniform and give it another try. He went on to have a very successful pitching career for the Dodgers. It was evident in the way this former player told me his story, that he felt George had made an important difference in his life. As managers and coaches that is a great thing for all of us to aspire to. George has stood the test of time because he truly loves doing what he does and the youth of this area are much the better for it. All of these qualities will serve him well this year in assembling and leading AABC's next national powerhouse team. Be sure to personally congratulate George the next time you see him. Good luck George from all of us at ENYTB!BACKGROUND INFORMATION RE: TOURNAMENT OF STARSIn 2004 and 2003, this elite tournament featured eight teams from national member organizations of USA Baseball, including: American Amateur Baseball Congress, American Legion, Babe Ruth, Dixie, N.A.B.F., Pony, RBI and USA Baseball. This is truly a best-of-the-best competition. Some call it the "Nation's Greatest Showcase". All players have Division I college calibre talent. A huge contingency of college and professional scouts are in attendance at all games. Additionally, with the cooperation of the Major League Scouting Bureau, all players are tested, screened and evaluated. The AABC selects its players from its nationwide Connie Mack (18U)program. The tournament will be held this year in Joplin, Missouri. Transportation, meals and housing all are provided to the players without VARCHARge, compliments of Major League Baseball and USA Baseball. Wooden bats will be used in this Tournament of Stars as wood is the required equipment for the International Tournament in China.
(1) All players and coaches must display a unique number on the back of their uniform shirt.(2) 18U Division - Wood bats, wood composite or laminated wood bats, will be required in NABF 18U tournament play, as described under rule 9.05(B).The 2005 NABF Rule Book is distributed to leagues following receipt of 2005 registration fees. It has been League practice in years past for the home team to pay the umps and provided the baseballs, except at 12U where both teams split. The old policy made it important that teams played an evenly divided home and away schedule, especially if they had no concessions. With the growth of the League and the increased utilization of many baseball...
