Placing/Finding Team Ads For Pick-Up Games
- Once the schedule is set, how do I use the website to find opponents for additional games, including on dates my opponent canceled and make-up dates?
What To Do If Your Opponent Can't Play
But You Still Want To Play Or If You Just Want More Games
Some of you contact the league office for help on finding replacement opponents when a scheduled opponent cancels out. Unfortunately, once schedules have been released, we don't know any better than you who is looking to add a game on any particular date (although upon request, we can look at the date in question and tell you the cancellations/postponements, if any, on the date in question). ADVISORY TO ALL MEMBERS:
Just as you are under no obligation to agree to cancel or postpone games during the Grace Period, ENYTB is under no obligation to replace those games for you. When it comes to scheduling, each team gets one bite at the apple.
SPECIAL ADVISORY TO NON-LOCAL MEMBERS:
A non-local member should be very hesitant to agree to a cancellation/postponement, especially with their home games. Even away games can difficult to replace because fields are highly utilized on the weekends, making it very difficult to find an opponent with back-to-back time slots in the middle of a weekend day. Remember, when you agree to "undo" (negotiate Grace Period cancellations with other ENYTB members), you are assuming the risk of not finding a replacement opponent. Upon request we will search specific dates for recent cancellations/postponements for you in the event there is another orphaned team like yourself, looking for a game.
ENYTB provides all members with a means of advertising their availability for additional games and for searching advertisements placed by other members. This tool is probably the most underutilized feature of the website. And it is VERY EASY to use. And it provides you with several different capabilities.
STEP 1 - Check out the ENYTB Game Board.
CLICK HERE TO GO THERE NOW
The Game Board is a list of all teams actively seeking games on specific dates, sorted by date. (To put your request on this list, simply enter it to the system.)
If there are lots of game requests on the board, click SEARCH and it will retrieve all requests that match the criteria you specify in terms of opponent age and competition level as well as field availability and date you wish to play. You can include ranges on certain criteria e.g., type of opponent from 15 HiSilver to 16 Gold.
STEP 2 - If there are no matches found on the Game Board (STEP 1), add your own request to the Game Board by clicking ADD REQUEST.
STEP 3 - SEARCH TEAM/FIELD AVAILABILITY FOR OTHER TEAMS
Unlike the search function described above, this one is quite different. It doesn't search the GAME BOARD. Instead, it searches the scheduling inputs that all teams provided to the league prior to scheduling. When the league schedule was developed, not every team was scheduled to play every day it wanted too. This function will find all the teams who said they wanted to play on any specified date or date range, but was not scheduled to do so and still is not scheduled to do so. This search function has two modes - by date and by opponent, explained next.
The tools described below worked in tandem with ENYTB's prior scheduling software. The new software, implemented in 2015, has not been reconnected to these tools at this time.
STEP 3A - SEARCH BY DATE
Here you enter the date you wish to play, the range of opponent you seek, and your field preference. The computer will return a list of all potential opponents that fit your criteria e.g., 15U Gold opponent on June 15 who has a field available. If you are interested in playing a team that matches your criteria, click on the team's name to pull up their contact info and call them to see if you can work something out.
STEP 3B - SEARCH BY OPPONENT
Let's say you would like to schedule a game or games with a particular team. You simply tell the computer what team you would like to play and specify the date range you would like to play them (can be a single day) and again, it will return a list of all dates when that team is available in that date range. You get to specify home field criteria as well. For example, you can specify that your opponent must have a home field available.
NOTE: SEARCH BY OPPONENT also is a valuable tool when looking for workable dates for a make-up of a postponed game.
